Woodward Canyon 2013 Charbonneau Red

The nose is absolutely Charbonneau! The flavor profile expresses the character of the vineyards beautifully with subtle herb and tobacco nuances coupled with gorgeous complex fruit, which in my opinion makes this wine so distinctive. I find classic Left Bank character and elegance that truly entices. I am impressed that Charbonneau can have such an expression of place year after year after year. This wine should age for ten years or more with proper cellaring.

VINEYARD NOTES:This 2013 Charbonneau Red is produced entirely from grapes grown in Walla Walla County. All of the cabernet sauvignon and merlot were grown by Charbonneau Vineyard owner, Mickey Witherspoon. Charbonneau Vineyard is located in northwestern Walla Walla County, on a bench on the south side of and overlooking the Snake River. The overall aspect is gently toward the north. The very sandy soils are shallow and wind blown and of marginal productivity, rarely producing more than three tons per acre. The Petit Verdot was grown at the 750 feet of elevation of Woodward Canyon Estate Vineyard in the western Walla Walla Valley on east facing silt loam and basalt based soils. Yield is typically no more than two tons per acre.
